We knew when we purchased our lot that there was a high-pressure natural gas pipeline running through the site. This would restrict the log home’s location, since there is a right-of-way that the pipeline company has to perform maintenance.
But this turned out to be a small benefit in 2011, when the company decided to replace sections of the pipeline in the neighborhood. The neighbors suspected there were leaks in the existing line, since they occasionally smelled the odorant added. We met with a representative of the company, and they agreed to reposition the new line further away from the current driveway so that we would have a larger space on which to build.
When the installed the new pipeline, they cleared some of the trees from the lot that we were planning to have removed.
